Sangam Arts and the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival - San Francisco, CA.

  • Yerba Buena Center for the Arts 700 Howard Street San Francisco, CA (map)

Sangam Arts, in partnership with World Arts West, will be shining a spotlight on classical Indian dance at this year’s San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival

For the first time in America, this year’s Festival includes a special weekend of performances where audiences can watch all 8 classical Indian dance forms together on one stage. While the Festival has often featured four of the classical Indian forms–bharatanatyam, kathak, kuchipudi, and odissi– rarer are the remaining four–kathakali, manipuri, mohiniyattam, and sattriya. This will be the first time that sattriya dance will be seen on stage in California.

Indian Consul General, Nagesh Parthasarathi, will present Katherine and KP Kunhiraman with the Festival’s annual Malonga Casquelourd Lifetime Achievement Award at the June 14 evening performance.
